The town of Riverton was established by a group of ten Philadelphians in 1851 as a summer resort to Philadelphia. They brought in Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan to layout the town and design the homes of the ten founders. Chartered as the Riverton Improvement Company the group had the steamboat landing construction in 1851 as the primary means of transport to town. A group of Riverton citizens purchased the landing in 1866 and in 1888 changed its name to the Riverton Iron Pier Co. A group of residents formed the Riverton Yacht Club in 1865 and in 1880 received permission to build its club house on the landing. The Stick-style structure also served as a passenger waiting room and wharf manager’s office, replacing the existing small waiting room. Steamboat service ceased in 1917 and in 1918 the Riverton Yacht Club purchased the entire landing.

The Trust grant will help fund structural repairs to approximately one-third of the wharf comprising the historic Riverton Steamboat Landing.
