Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat CG-36538 was constructed in 1952 out of the Curtis Bay shipyard in Maryland and remained in service until 1972. This boat type was the last wood-hulled coastal lifeboat developed by the Coast Guard and the first to use laminated wood. Subsequent boats were made of metal. This boat served from 1952 until the early 1960s at Atlantic Beach Station in New York and then from the 1960s to 1972 at Ocean City Station in New Jersey. During its time in New Jersey the boat was used primarily for winter rescues and winter assistance calls. This boat held a crew of three with room for thirty passengers. 

The 2023 Trust grant will help fund the last phase of restoration activities including wood restoration, painting, electrical upgrades, as well as fire and safety improvements among other activities.  

The 2017 Trust grant helped fund interior and exterior restoration of the motor lifeboat.
