The Eakin House was built in the late 18th century and substantially remodeled c. 1841 in the Greek Revival style for Alphonso L. Eakin, first of four generations of this prominent Salem family to occupy the house. The Society owns several other historic buildings in the Salem Historic District that are used for archives, research and exhibits.
The current grant will help fund the rehabilitation of the first floor and construction of an accessible entrance and facilities. This project is guided by an existing conditions assessment funded by a previous Trust grant. Upon completion, the house will be used for historic programming and community events.
