Newark City
Built in 1874, this Church is one of the best examples of the High Victorian Gothic style in Newark. Designed by nationally renowned architect William Appleton Potter, the church has been home to the oldest African-American denomination in New Jersey since 1930. A variety of stained glass windows and detailed varnished woodwork remain well preserved in this magnificent edifice.
The grant funded replacement of the deteriorated roofing and drainage system. In addition to its weekly services and an annual carnival, the church sponsors several community programs, including a food pantry and pre-school program.
