The Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church was built in 1871, designed by Ebenezer Roberts, and was at the time the largest Presbyterian Church in New Jersey. In 1931 the church was destroyed by fire, and rebuilt from 1932 to 1934 to a new design by Zantzinger Borie and Medary. The reconstruction incorporated the foundation and bell tower base.
While the original church was built in stone, the reconstruction used cast stone, scribed and tinted to resemble stone blocks. The current grant will aid the study of the cast-stone exterior and determine an appropriate method of repair. A previous Trust grant helped fund a preservation plan for the main sanctuary and parish house.
