The farmhouse built c. 1750 by Quaker Isaac Kay received two 19th century additions by the abolitionist Thomas Evans family, and resulted in the Federal style appearance of the main block of the house. The house was reportedly a site on the Underground Railroad for escaped slaves. John Croft farmed the property before the township purchased it in 1985. Today, the farmhouse, historic outbuildings (c. 1820-40) and 45 acres of recreational space are reminders of the agricultural heritage of the now highly developed township. The site is now a regional arts center.
The Trust grant helped fund restoration of the house exterior. The work was recommended in a preservation plan that was prepared with grant assistance from the Historic Trust. The house will be an exhibit, meeting, and office space.
