The American Labor Museum has occupied the Pietro and Maria Botto House since 1983. The house was listed in the New Jersey and National registers of historic places in 1974. The building was elevated to National Historic Landmark status in 1983. Silk mill workers Pietro and Maria Botto constructed the house in 1908. The property’s significance is tied to the 1913 Paterson silk workers strike. The house served as a meeting place for striking mill workers for nearly six months.
Security remains an issue for this museum with an irreplaceable collection of Labor-related artifacts, and pressure from the museum’s insurers for improved security. This grant will provide funding towards the installation of a wireless security system.
