Constructed about 1881, this National Historic Landmark is a seventy-five foot long pachyderm, an example of "zoomorphic architecture." Built as an architectural folly and real estate office to attract homebuyers to the resort area, it has become a favorite landmark in the landscape of seaside New Jersey.

Saved from demolition by concerned citizens in the 1960s, Lucy was moved to a city-owned site in 1970, stabilized, restored and opened again to the public during a decades long preservation process.  The grant-funded work will help with on-going repairs to the structure and prevent further water damage.
