Constructed as the Summit Public Library in 1891, architect Arthur Jennings designed a Richardsonian Romanesque style structure utilizing a variety of masonry materials, including slate, granite, and brick. Abandoned as a library in 1911, the building was rescued seven years later by the Playhouse Association, which was founded by Marjorie Cranstoun. The Association constructed 100-seat auditorium addition in 1960. The theater today attracts 4-5,000 adult and child patrons annually.
The grant will help fund ongoing repair and restoration of wood windows and repointing of the 1891 portion of building.
