Double Trouble began as a timbering and cedar mining operation in the late eighteenth century. In the mid nineteenth century, cranberry culture was introduced to make use of the cleared land. Today the village and bog have survived without intrusions. They contain a nucleus of buildings that illustrate every aspect of the cranberry production process and exhibit buildings that illuminate aspects of the day-to-day life of the individuals involved in cranberry production.
Two matching grants funded the restoration and stabilization of the Sawmill and the Packing and Sorting House, both of which contain much original machinery that has now been made fully operational.
