Montclair Township
Built in 1896, Evergreens is an unusual residential design from early skyscraper architect Michael LeBrun, who designed the Metropolitan Life Insurance Tower in New York City. This imposing residence embodies a unique mix of materials in both Tudor and Colonial Revival styles. The house is unique for retaining most of its nineteenth century finishes and fittings, including the original plans.
The grant funds stabilization and rehabilitation of the exteriors of both the main house and the carriage house, including roofs, chimneys, flashing conditions, sidings, and deteriorated finish carpentry. The Montclair Historical Society will use the house and carriage house for museum and educational activities.
