The Israel Crane House, built in 1796, is an excellent example of a Federal-style residence. Located next door to the Crane House is the Queen Anne-style Clark House, built in 1894. Less than a mile away from these two properties is Evergreens, an unusual residential design by Michael LeBrun (architect of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Tower in New York City) constructed in 1896. Evergreens combines a unique mix of Tudor and Colonial Revival details and features a Shingle Style carriage house at the rear.
The current Trust grant will help fund the preparation of a 10-year master plan that will address the preservation, use and linking of all of the Society’s historic properties. A 1997 grant from the Historic Trust funded stabilization and rehabilitation of the Evergreens house and carriage house. Another previous grant helped fund a marketing and feasibility study for a capital campaign designed to support the preservation and restoration of the Society’s three historic properties.
