Grant Recipient:
Borough of Madison

Municipality:
Madison
The building was constructed in 1933 according to the designs of architect Richard Shapter. Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge donated the funds for the building’s construction. The building serves as Madison’s town hall and a memorial to the Dodge’s late son. This Neoclassical town hall was constructed of granite, limestone, and marble. It includes six colossal fluted Doric columns and an octagonal cupola. The building is on a grand scale and is prominently placed within the borough’s downtown. The overall condition of the building is good. The roof is at the end of its serviceable life and needs replacement. The building has not been altered over time and retains a high level of integrity.
The grant will help fund the restoration of the entire building and the rehabilitation of the former fire and police garage bays by reusing them as court rooms and meeting space.
