The Metlar/Knapp/Bodine House includes one of the last extant houses of the Raritan Landing settlement, the first settlement that flourished along the Raritan River in the 18th century. The house's subsequent architectural additions are vernacular reflections of design trends and style.
The grant will help fund a preservation plan for the oldest, c. 1728 Bodine section of the house, and a restoration and preservation plan for the Ross Hall Wall. The wall is one of four interior room elevations of a no longer extant local Georgian dwelling known as Ross Hall where General George Washington celebrated the first anniversary of the birth of our country. These reports will serve as addendums to the 1992 historic structure report.
Also included are design services for the reconstruction of the 1950's breezeway between the house and garage to provide ADA accessibility to the house and space for the installation of the Ross Hall Wall, now disassembled in storage, and rehabilitation of the garage for museum/visitor orientation/exhibit hall space and ADA accessible restrooms.
