At the turn of the last century, James Morgan and his family transformed the Canfield-Morgan farmstead into a truck farm, orchard and country estate. The buildings on the property date to 1845, preserving a picture of the nineteenth century agricultural lifestyle in populous, suburbanized Essex County.
The grant funds the stabilization, restoration and rehabilitation of the farmhouse. Situated within a 14-acre municipal park, the farmhouse and surrounding barns will be developed as museums of agricultural technology and early-twentieth century life in Cedar Grove.
