The matching grant will help fund a preservation plan and archaeological investigation of the millrace way that is part of the historic district in Mount Holly. The waterway's construction dates to 1723 and is a reminder of Mount Holly's industrial history. The race way has suffered from deterioration and inappropriate repairs made by public and private owners whose properties border the historic water way.

The project is supported by a coalition of private, public and nonprofit representatives who envision the restoration and interpretation of the raceway as a complimentary effort to Mount Holly's revitalization as a historic and cultural destination
