The New Brunswick Railroad Station is the last example in New Jersey of a standard station design developed by the Pennsylvania Railroad for medium-sized cities. It is one of the most visible symbols of New Brunswick's historic role as a transportation hub.

The matching grant funded replacement of one of the station's most prominent elements, its distinctive slate roof.
