The Orange City Hall, on North Day Street, was built in 1869 as Orange’s first public high school, soon after the City’s incorporation in 1860. Its Second Empire design and details are typical of public building design of the time. In 1910, when the school had outgrown the building, it was altered for use as the municipal city hall, retaining its mansard roof.
The Trust grant will help fund the preparation of a preservation plan to assist with planning the building’s restoration and future. The grant will also fund the preparation of a National Register nomination.
