The building, designed by famous New York City architect Stanford White, has had limited alterations since its construction. The exterior and interior preserve most of the original design features including stone columns, classically detailed book cases, and high-quality finishes. An accessible entrance has been created without disturbing the front portico.

The current Trust grant will help fund restoration and rehabilitation of the library's exterior and interior.  The project is guided by a preservation plan previously funded by the Trust.
