The New York architectural firm of Carrere and Hastings, the architectural firm that designed the New York Public Library and many other notable public buildings, designed Paterson City Hall in 1894. The City Hall remains an outstanding and well-preserved example of the Beaux Arts style in architecture, and has remained a prominent visual element in Paterson, a city with a rich civic and industrial history.
The grant funds the restoration of the ornate interior public spaces, reconstruction of missing historic entrance doors, conservation of three statues in the plaza outside the entrance, preservation of stained glass windows, and improvements for modern use.
