Paulsdale is a National Historic Landmark, significant as the home of renowned suffragist Alice Stokes Paul (1885-1977). The farmstead consists of the pre-1849 Greek Revival style dwelling house and the nineteenth-century ice house, located on a six-acre tract of land that retains much of its period plantings. Alice Paul returned frequently to her family home during her long and often controversial career as an activist for women's rights. The house remains largely intact, having only minor interior changes.

The Alice Paul Centennial Foundation initiated the purchase of the property in 1990. The Foundation's goal is to preserve Paulsdale as a tribute to Alice Paul and to establish an educational facility to provide leadership training for girls and young women. The grant helped fund phase two of the restoration of the house including reconstruction of the wrap-around porch and main cornice bracket.

The first grant helped fund exterior repairs and preservation, including roof replacement, structural repairs, restoration of exterior trim, doors and windows as well as mechanical and electrical systems upgrades.
