The Port Colden School was constructed in 1869 and served the educational needs of the historic community located on the banks of the Morris Canal until the early-twentieth century. Subsequently, the structure provided courtroom, police station and meeting space, but the building's interior in particular has suffered from alterations and deterioration.

The grant will help fund the preparation of construction documents, materials analysis, and construction supervision for the interior restoration of the historic school house.  A previous Trust grant helped fund the restoration of the building’s roof and cornice, cupola, masonry and windows.  The building will be used for administrative offices and community space.  The lower classroom will be restored and used as an instructional aid.
