The massive Collegiate-Gothic chapel, one of the finest buildings on the Princeton campus, was completed in 1928. Conceived by its architect, Ralph Adams Cram, as the university's "center of dynamic energy," the non-denominational chapel accommodates both secular activities, such as music performances open to the public and commencements, and serves as the center of spiritual life.

The Trust grant will fund a portion of the $8.8 million exterior restoration project that is already underway. The project includes restoration of all exterior masonry, stained glass and bronze light fixtures, and the addition of a permanent barrier-free ramp. This project, in turn, is the first phase in a comprehensive program to remedy physical problems in high-reach areas throughout the campus.
