This c.1889 property, also named "The Clearing," is a fine example of a late-nineteenth century estate in one of the original railroad suburbs of New York City. The grounds represent trends in residential landscaping as designed and executed by some of the country's leading landscape architects, such as Vaux and Company, Ellen Shipman and Carl Pilat. This property bears witness to the early-twentieth century trend that brought together professional landscape architects and an elite, primarily female clientele, in a pairing that influenced the "garden club" movement and women's magazines devoted to gardening.

The Trust grant funded a complete rehabilitation of the exterior and improvements to the interior of the Wisner House, rehabilitation of the Carriage House, and partial restoration of the landscape. The Arboretum sponsors several horticultural and environmental educational and recreational programs, including a plant therapy program for neurologically impaired children, nature lectures, children's workshops, public tours, a concert series and a summer camp.
