The Relief Hose Company No. 2 Engine House is locally significant as a well-preserved example of a Victorian-era 1894 High Gothic style firehouse. In addition to housing Relief Company No. 2, the building historically hosted many municipal activities and at times housed Borough Council chambers and the public library.

The current grant will help fund restoration of interior finishes, make structural improvements, upgrade services, provide new barrier free accessible bathrooms and rehabilitate the space for continued community use. The previous Trust grant helped fund preparation of a historic register nomination, a preservation plan, construction documents and paint analysis for the property's interior rehabilitation.
