The early 19^th century two-story brick farmhouse was purchased by the township in the late 1990s and leased to the New Egypt Historical Society for a museum and public meeting/program space.  Designed in a vernacular Federal style, the brick residence retains good integrity, but for the loss of its portico.  A one-story frame addition, perhaps originally a kitchen, had a second floor added by a previous tenant.  The farmhouse is on a two acre site that is part of the township municipal campus that includes open space for recreational ball fields, a new municipal building and three schools.  The campus is ¼ mile from the main street district.

The building is suffering some moisture penetration, evident in failing gutter system, the deteriorated mortar and masonry, and active water leakage in the attic.  These problems date to the previous tenant’s ownership.  The township and applicant have attempted stop gap repairs.

The grant will help fund the preparation of a preservation plan.
