St. Stephen's Church is a historic institution that reflects the most successful period in Beverly's history. While a small community established itself along the Delaware River, it was not until the Camden-Amboy railroad and steamboat landing were created in the mid-1800s that Beverly became an attractive site for industry, farming, "country" homes and farms for wealthy urban-dwellers. A local builder constructed the first part of the church in 1855, influenced by the high-style Gothic designs of John Notman and Richard Upjohn. The complex features a 1869 addition by the firm of Frazer, Furness & Hewitt, and five stained glass windows designed by Lamb Studios in 1901.

The current grant will help fund the preparation of construction documents for structural and stabilization repairs to the steeple. Previous Trust grants helped to fund the preparation of a preservation plan and evaluation of structural concerns in the spire, tower and main truss.
