St. Luke's Church is an example of early nineteenth century Gothic Revival ecclesiastical architecture. Church construction began in 1832 and was completed by 1839. The gable-roofed stone church has a center tower with wood belfry and decorative finials at each or its corners. St. Luke's was built as a rural mission church through the efforts and influence of the renowned preacher - Bishop George Washington Doane. The general condition of the building is good and the building retains a high degree of integrity.

The 2007 grant helped fund the preparation of construction documents for the restoration of the steeple that was severely damaged during a 2006 wind storm. Previous Trust grants have helped fund exterior restoration of the roof and windows, the preparation of a preservation plan, a National Register nomination, and schematic plans for the restoration of the public area in front of the church.
