Of statewide significance as one of the finest 1920s theatres in the state, Thomas Lamb, the same architect responsible for Madison Square Garden in New York City, designed the Strand Theatre in 1922. While the theater's business had been declining since the 1970s, it received a $2.4 million grant from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority in 1994 for restoration of its Neo-classical and Art Deco interiors.
The Trust grant will fund the installation of air conditioning that will enable the building to be used year-round. Additional work includes much-needed exterior and roof repairs.
