The major surviving historic structure at Upper Bellemont Farm is a barn dating from the second half of the eighteenth century. In addition to its architectural significance, the barn is also significant for its association with two important New Jersey families – the Coxes and the Stouts. The site has also been identified as having high potential for archaeological resources. The property also contains a stone burial vault. The barn is in fair condition and is showing signs of deterioration at the roof and its siding.
The grant will help fund the preparation of a feasibility study for potential future use of the building, programming options, funding sources, partnering possibilities and the preparation of a heritage tourism plan that builds upon the results of the feasibility study.
