Whitesbog is a 2,000-acre agricultural landscape that was one of the first cranberry farms in the state and is the location of the first successful cultivation of domesticated blueberries by Elizabeth White.  This site remains remarkably intact, and the village includes workers’ cottages, the general store, a boarding house, water tower, school, superintendent’s house and “Suningive”, Elizabeth White’s home and gardens.

The current Trust grant will help fund the ongoing restoration and repair of 22 historic structures are that rented for income, occupied for nonprofit uses, or interpreted to the public, during school tours and the annual Blueberry Festival.  Work will include replacing shingles, installing new wood frame storm and screen windows, roofing and gutter replacement and restoration of key buildings used for educational programs.

Previous grants helped to fund the preparation of a master plan, cultural landscape survey and the reahabilitation of the barrel storage house and barrel factory as a visitor’s center and special events.  The grant also aided the restoration of four workers’ cottages.
