The mission of the New Jersey Heritage Tourism Task Foce is to improve New Jersey's performance in the regional and national heritrage tourism market.
The Task Force was established by the legislature (P.L. 2006, Ch. 60) and is charged with conducting a survey and inventory of New Jersey’s historic resources, establishing a signage and marker program and promoting coordination among New Jersey’s historic sites. The Task Force will also encourage the State, counties and municipalities to focus on heritage tourism. Finally, the Task Force has been charged with identifying stable sources of funding for the enhancement, maintenance and interpretation of our historic sites.
The goals of the Task Force are to:- Conduct inventories and surveys of all state potential and recognized historic sites
- Establish signage and historic marker program
- Promote coordination of historic sites throughout New Jersey
- Enhance the efforts of State, county and municipal government agencies to focus on heritage tourism
- Identify potential sources of stable funding for maintenance of historic sites available for heritage tourists
