Grant Award: $5,250 (2002); $7,763 (2004); $339,898 (2006)
Grant Recipient: Historical Commission of South Bound Brook
County: Somerset
Municipality: South Bound Brook

Built by several generations of the Staats family from ca. 1738 through 1825, the Abraham Staats House is the premier historic site in the borough. The Historical Commission is working to preserve and display the historic and architectural treasures of the site. They are also developing links with the neighboring Fisher Plantation and Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park.

The 2006 grant helped fund foundation repairs, restoration of doors and windows, as well as accessibilty and security work that will allow greater use of the site. Previous Trust grants helped fund an archaeological investigation and a landscape preservation plan for the three-acre property, which was acquired by the borough in 1999.
