Bartlett-Rockhill House

Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund
Historic Site Management Grant (2009)
Grant Award: $35,616 (2009)
Grant Recipient: Barnegat Bay Decoy and Baymen Museum
County: Ocean
Municipality: Tuckerton
The house was constructed circa 1855 for Edmund Bartlett and was later owned by a sea captain before being purchased by Bartlett’s nephew in 1910.  The house contains a combination of late Federal and early Victorian styles. A number of additions and alterations were made to the house beginning in the nineteenth century and continuing into the 1930s. The physical composition of the house reflects the period of J. Henry Bartlett’s residency.  Now owned by the museum, the house is used for temporary storage, occasional events and one room is used for Victorian-era interpretation.

The grant will help fund the preparation of a nomination to the National Register and a preservation plan for the house that will assess its current conditions and make recommendation for rehabilitation and future use of the building by the museum.
