The Burrowes Mansion, a half-Georgian style structure built in 1723 by John Bowne III, became known as the Burrowes Mansion after it was purchased by an influential and successful merchant, John (Corn King) Burrowes Sr., in 1769. The exterior features unique hand-scalloped wooden shingle siding. John Burrowes Sr. was a member of the Sons of Liberty and a patriot to the cause of American Independence. He was an integral supplier of provisions to the Continental Army and opened his home and property for the mustering and training grounds of the first New Jersey Company of the Continental Army as they prepared to fight for independence. In 1778, the Mansion was the site of a famous skirmish between local Patriots and British Loyalist forces during the Revolutionary War.

The 2023 HSM Trust grant will help fund a Preservation Plan. The 2023 Capital Level I Trust grant will help fund electrical work throughout the mansion.

A 2016 Trust grant helped fund the replacement of part of the wood shake roof, repair windows, shutters, siding and trim, exterior painting and structural reinforcement of interior floors. A previous 1993 Trust grant helped fund structural repairs and replacement of deteriorated roofing and siding.
