Grant Award: $50,000 (2004); $560,202 (2006)
Grant Recipient: Community of St. John Baptist
County: Morris
Municipality: Mendham

The Convent for the Community of St. John Baptist was designed by Burr Friedley and William Cordingley in 1916 to resemble a French Normandy monastic structure. It also included Arts and Crafts elements and sensibilities, formal gardens and a cemetery. The grounds of the Community serve the Daytops youth substance abuse program, providing space for retreats, and give residence to the only Episcopalian convent in the state.

The 2006 Trust grant helped fund the restoration of the exterior masonry walls. The previous grant helped fund the preparation of a preservation plan for the convent, garden walls, chapel, cemetery bell tower, and cemetery walls.
