Fort Mott

New Jersey Historic Preservation Bond Program
Grant Award: $150,000 (1991)
Grant Recipient: New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry
County: Salem
Municipality: Pennsville

Fort Mott was constructed in 1896 in anticipation of the Spanish-American War and is an excellent example of early poured concrete construction. This fort exemplifies how the military combined natural and man-made elements in the construction of a fortification to safeguard a strategic area. Today Fort Mott is the first of five welcome centers for the 275-mile New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail.

The Trust matching grant helped fund the stabilization of the concrete batteries.
