The Strand Theatre, of statewide significance as one of the finest 1920s theatres in the state, was designed by Thomas Lamb, the architect responsible for Madison Square Garden in New York City, in 1922. While the theatre's business had been declining since the 1970s, it received a $2.4 million grant from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority in 1994 for restoration of its Neo-classical and Art Deco interiors.

The Trust grant helped fund the installation of air conditioning that will enable the building to be used year-round. Additional work includes much-needed exterior and roof repairs.
